What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external data sources. Once configured, your AI queries live maritime data directly in conversation — no copy-pasting, no switching tabs.

How does authentication work?

Your DataDocked API key is stored locally in the MCP config file on your machine. It is never sent to the AI provider — only used to authenticate requests from your machine to the DataDocked API.

Does using MCP cost credits?

Yes. Each tool call deducts credits the same as a direct API call. The MCP server shows estimated costs before running compound operations. Check your balance anytime: “How many credits do I have left?”
